Friends of the Deaf invites you join the community of Friends giving help and hope to the deaf in Guatemala. No amount is too small! The needs are many but together we can make a difference!
For only $40 per month you can provide a student with the materials, books and classes that will transform his/her life! Many of the deaf are kept away from society, denying them any chance to gain self-respect and acceptance. With just a few dollars a day, you can open the doors of opportunity for these deserving people. At LAVOSI they will find the acceptance, guidance and life-skills that will allow them to become productive members of society. They will gain the self-worth and dignity that we all deserve!
For only $70 per month you can provide a child not only with all the things at the $40 level, but also provide for his/her transportation. The reality here is that the cost of getting to and from school each day adds up very fast. Many of our students live outside of the Antigua/Jocotenango area. They pay on the average Q12 a day for the round trip bus fare to and from LAVOSI. In one week this adds up to Q60 and Q240 in one month! This equals approximately $30 per month just for transportation! Most families simply cannot afford it! As a result, we have lost some of our students, and others haven´t enrolled, simply because they cannot afford to get to school! This is very sad. You can help a child have the books, etc, AND pay for the transportation to take advantage of the positive life changing experiences that they will only find at LAVOSI!
